2008 Boston Conference
It was: June 12–15, 2008
Waltham, MA (near Boston)
The 2008 National Cohousing Conference was at Bentley College.
This truly beautiful campus served as the home base for many participants, who stayed in dorms, others choose to stay at area hotels. Airport shuttles were available.
Note: the 2008 Conference is now past. Perhaps you are interested in attending the 2009 Conference? Or you may like to add your comments to the presentation section?
The 2008 gathering was the best yet! Many came and networked with other cohousers in every phase, from the community-minded to veteran cohousing residents. Two days of pre-conference workshops and community tours were followed by a weekend of regular conference activities. Presentations addressed everything from the basics of cohousing and designing and building communities, to living in community and sustaining the cohousing movement throughout the country, and more. Download the schedule!
Registration included the Friday night Keynote by John Abrams and reception, all presentations on Saturday and Sunday, and Saturday Night Dinner Auction. Also included were breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. Apartment-style dormitories with private baths (per apartment) were available for all conference participants. Parking was free, ample and close to the conference buildings. Campus-wide wi-fi was intended to be available free of charge, but we (unexpectantly) did not have wifi in the dorms.
Thursday night: Free Cohousing Film Festival, no registration required
Couldn't attend the whole conference? We also welcomed part-timers!
- Some registered for just the preconference workshops and/or bus tours on Thursday and Friday ($50 per 3 hour workshop, and $110 or $60 depending on which bus tour).
- You may also register for Saturday only, for $160. This may be done on site Saturday morning. Saturday only registration does not include dinner - dinner tickets can be purchased separately by following the instructions below. Breakfast and lunch on Saturday are included.
- If you need lodging, and are not attending the conference itself, create an account by clicking here. In the drop down menu for "type of registration," select "not attending." Select the nights you would like to stay, and any other workshops or add-ons (like Saturday dinner).

Conference Presentations: There was something for everyone at the conference this year, for those who have lived in community for years, or have just recently felt the burn to join or form a group. Many come and networked, shared, created, lead, grow, and sustained their experience.
Main Conference presentations run Saturday all day, and Sunday morning. Presentation areas included Process, Management, Green Design, Development, Professional, and General Interest. Read the descriptions
Pre-conference Workshops were available for $50.00 each, and began on Thursday afternoon, and continued all day on Friday. On Thursday, our all day bus tour visited gorgeous Western Massachusetts, circling the eclectic town of Northampton, visiting surrounding communities. Friday, there were more workshops, and two Boston-area cohousing tours – each a half day, giving some the time to do both!
We had three ways that folks sponsored this event in 2008.
We will also had an exibit area for vendors with a wide range of diverse products and services and cohousing communities seeking new members. Commercial exhibits cost $500 for an 8' table or $250 for cohousing groups or non-profits. More info soon.
