2010 Community Tours
Come be inspired on one of our four rolling workshops, offered as full-day and half-day tours. In addition to visiting and learning all about unique and wonderful cohousing communities, you’ll get a chance to enjoy the Boulder area! Colorado’s “Front Range” is home to 12 cohousing communities, making it one of the largest concentrations of cohousing communities in the United States.
With the guidance of an experienced cohouser and the company of other cohousing enthusiasts, you’ll have the unparalleled experience of visiting a wide variety of urban and rural communities in a short period of time. This educational experience provides a great way to see real-world examples of cohousing.
During our travel time, your guide will lead a discussion about cohousing, share his or her experiences and resources, and answer your questions. It really is a traveling workshop – and more! The diverse mix of tour participants generates dynamic conversations, lots of learning in a fun environment, and more often than not, the beginning of many new friendships.
At each stop, our community hosts will lead you on an informative tour of their community. You will learn about each community's history and values and about the systems that keep everything running smoothly. You’ll have a chance to take a closer look at building and site design as well as to hear many inspiring stories about living in a cohousing community. You’ll also receive written materials about each community, including a site plan of each.
As you visit communities in the Boulder and Denver area, you’ll see how a sustainable approach can work within an urban environment. Many Front Range communities take advantage of public transportation, cultural offerings, the local food movement, pedestrian- and bike-friendly neighborhoods, and other urban amenities, showing that living in cities can indeed be green! In this way, cohousing communities can flourish in a more integrated way – as a part of the surrounding city – and then can act as catalysts for change and improvement.
All four tours are selling out fast – so be sure to reserve your spot today! We look forward to meeting you and together creating a fun, inspiring, and unforgettable experience.
