Support the cohousing movement

One of the best ways to help cohousing grow is to make a donation to the Cohousing Association of the United States (Coho/US). Click here to do this online - now.

Or, send a check payable to "Coho/US" to:

Coho/US, #1445
22833 Bothell-Everett Highway, #110
Bothell, WA 98021

If you have questions about donating to Coho/US, you can reach us by email or phone - just click the Contact Us button near the top right of this page.

Have you seen the recent letter from Rick Mockler, Coho/US Board President? How about the note on our progress from Craig Ragland, Coho/US Executive Director? These discuss how donations have enabled Coho/US to better serve the cohousing movement.

We work hard to help:

  • forming cohousing groups
  • established communities
  • those who want to join us in creating a better society, one neighborhood at a time

When you give to Coho/US, not only do you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping nurture forming communities, produce online resources, sponsor workshops and gatherings, and chronicle best practices and lessons from across the cohousing movement, but you also are supporting a 501(c)(3) organization and your contribution is tax-deductible to the full extent allows by law.

DonateIf you are able, please consider setting up a recurring donation. The steady, predictable income from recurring donations helps us tremendously. Plus, you won't need to remember to donate and we won't need to remind you. For added fun and flexibility, you can choose your own donation cycle - maybe once a year, twice a year, quarterly, or monthly.

Thank you very much!

Cohousing Association of the United States (Coho/US) depends on our partners (below) to help us advance our mission. We have both individual and community partners that provide financial and/or volunteer support and resources to advance the association's work. Our growing base of volunteers includes our Board of Directors, the National Conference Team (along with its many sub-teams), the Editorial Team, and others who work closely with our staff, behind the scenes.

We need your financial support to enable our work to continue and expand. Since first introduced to the US only 20 years ago, more than 115 cohousing communities have been created in the United States. This is a great start, but our vision is to make cohousing communities broadly available to millions of people. We actively support forming groups and individuals interested in cohousing. We have made great progress to strengthen existing communities, but we have a lot of work ahead of us.

Coho/US is most grateful for philanthropic support. Below, you'll find the names of individuals and communities that have supported Coho/US since we began requesting permission to post names (September, 2008).

Would you like to appear on this honor roll? Would you like to help Coho/US in its work? Please help us with your support at a level that works for you. If you want guidance from the past:

Individual Partners:
from $5 to $20,000 (historic levels)

Individuals recognize the value of cohousing to their lives, the lives of their families, and to the world. They are also most able to immediately decide and act - without a consensus process (grin).

Community Partners:
from $50 to $5,000 (historic levels)

We suggest $250, or $25 per household, whichever is greater. Some communities have also chosen to sponsor our National Conferences or purchase long-term advertisements as an alternative or in addition to donations. Please consider putting Coho/US into your annual budget to provide the long-term support we need to grow the cohousing movement.

Professional Partners: from $50 to $5,000

Some cohousing professionals have choosen to make donations in addition to sponsoring Coho/US and its various activities, e.g., the National Conference. Professionals are invited to give indivdually and appear as individual donors with their cohousing affiliation.

You can contribute as a partner online or send us a check payable to Coho/US to:

For forming groups or communities, we request that you identify one or more individuals to serve as your community liaison with Coho/US. This person will receive occasional news from Coho/US and may provide us updates about your community from time to time.
