LifeSpirit Village is a group of individuals and families who want to create and live in a co-housing neighborhood and who affirm the following shared values as guidelines for our life together.

SPIRITUALITY

We believe the search for meaning and spiritual growth is important at all stages of life. We encourage one another’s commitment to the spiritual path each has chosen.

MUTUAL SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE

We develop face-to-face relationships through which we offer and receive support. We express our needs, listen to each other, and strive to act responsibly, considering the common good. We devote fair time and energy to the neighborhood.

“IT TAKES A VILLAGE” PARENTING SUPPORT

We together create and strive to live by shared expectations for the respectful manners of children and adults toward one another. The offering of loving guidance, clear boundary setting, and caring support for each other’s children is encouraged.

SIMPLE LIFESTYLE AND RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

We agree to be good stewards of the co-housing property. We seek a simplified lifestyle that reflects a respectful relationship with the environment. Recycling, reusing, and reducing environmental impact are key values.

CARE DURING CRISIS, ILLNESS, AND DYING

A common goal of the co-housing community is to offer neighborly care to one another for troubles occurring across the lifespan. This aim does not replace the needed use of institutional services, nor does it attempt to substitute for assisted living or nursing home care.

ARTS, HEALTH, AND RECREATION

We support and encourage the vitality of all. Leisure, recreational activities, travel, rest, exercise, and social events contribute uniquely toward refreshing and healing the mind, body, and spirit. Play and the arts are an integral part of community life.

SERVICE

Support from the co-housing community empowers us to help each other and to contribute to the wider community. LifeSpirit Village as a whole is involved with its locale and engages in selected service to the larger community.

COMMUNITY PROCESSES

Decisions are ordinarily made by consensus. Personal integrity and mutual fairness are the primary guidelines for handling aspirations and differences among members. Care is taken to listen fully to concerns and doubts to enhance long-range wisdom. We share the intention to address conflict directly, respectfully, and equitably. Learning from the conflict and its resolution is valued.
