Cohousing Directory - Community View

The Pine Street Cohousing was formed during the summer of 1990, by a group intending residents, to develop a small community on a 5.3 acre site in Amherst, MA. Each of eight families has its own smaller than usual private house, as well as a share in a "common house". The houses are clustered closely together to maximize the usefulness of the shared common house — a community space which effectively enlarges the living area of each house. To achieve this compactness, vehicles, parking, and roadway have been squeezed to the periphery. Pedestrian circulation predominates.
