Mariposa Grove is an activism and arts community in north Oakland, organized as cohousing. The three adjacent houses contain 6 apartments as well as shared space for many meals, creative pursuits and collaborations, office space, workshop, gardens, etc. We've rebuilt severely deteriorated houses into a place where creativity inspires social change, activism inspires creative collaboration, and everyone is actively engaged in the urban fabric we inhabit. We engage in art parties, theater, fire performance, singing, and community organizing, sometimes together at home, sometimes separately with others in the broader community. Friends have bought another large house next door and we are in the process of expanding the community.
