Cohousing Directory - Community View
Seeking members for a new community in the heart of Tacoma. We are making an offer on a property that has a newly-remodeled, 12-unit apartment building which can be converted to condos for purchase. Six units are two-bedroom, 1 bath, and 6 are one bedroom, one bath. The basement has laundry facilities, a work area, and an office with separate door on to side street. There is a large fenced lot with two huge trees, and off-street parking area. The building has a flat roof which would be perfect for a "green roof" with deck, solarium, etc. and a beautiful view of the mountains and water.
Adjacent to this lot are two other available lots. One has a single-family house and the other a duplex. Both are in good shape structurally but need extensive cleaning and some remodeling. They could be renovated or demolished leaving a lot where new townhouse-type units could be built facing the adjacent lot. The SE corner of that area would make a great community garden.
Centrally located in an area undergoing a revitalization, it is close to bus lines, markets, government offices, schools and lots of small businesses. Several great restaurants and watering holes nearby also.
All we need now are people! We are looking for individuals, couples, and families to join in a diverse community. Since the former South Sound Cohousing had disbanded two years ago, there are only a few of us from the old group getting this started. We'll use some interim CC & R's to give some structure and then see what develops among the folks who show up! You can get in on the ground floor. (Or the second or third!)
