Coho/US has created a new Members Area primed for all sorts of in-depth conversations that focus on topics that appeal to cohousers.

One of the new Topic Rooms – on Finding Your Community hosted by Diana Leafe Christian – with blogs, forums and other resources.

Of course, the cohousing movement has a rich variety of resources: books, Cohousing-L, professionals, and conferences.
Our new Members Area supplements them by providing a place where it's easy to drop in on an ongoing discussion focused on a particular topic. Easy to find others interested in the same thing. Easy to ask questions.
To make the most of your interest in different cohousing subjects, there are fresh blogs, lively forums, scheduled chats, lists of other resources plus other kinds of tools. We’re intent on giving you better access to the information you need, plus easy contact with experienced cohousers as well as various cohousing professionals who share your passion.
As it stands now, the Members Area is free. All that’s needed to access and participate is to enroll here*.

More About the Members Area

The Members Area is divided up into "rooms" each focused on a different broad topic. While we have plans for lots of other rooms on other subjects, the Members Area is being launched at the 2008 Cohousing Conference in Boston with four active rooms:

Future Rooms

We envision the Members Area will eventually have perhaps two dozen different rooms that each focus on a broad topic important to cohousers. Some of the broad subjects we anticipate having are:

  • Affordability
  • Aging in community
  • The Business side: Budgets, Legal, etc.
  • Buying Land/Construction/Financing
  • Common Meals/Community Building
  • Getting the Work Done
  • Group Process
  • New Professionals
  • Regional Groups
  • Sustainability

In addition to these Topic Rooms, a couple of Great Rooms will be created for:

  • Forming Groups
  • Living in Community

While the blog and forums in the Great Rooms will touch on all sorts of subjects important to its constituencies, they will also include entries from the Topic Rooms that are of particular interest. For example, in the Living in Cohousing Great Room, entries and posts from Topic Rooms such as the Business Side, the Group Process and Getting the Work Done will also appear in that Great Room.
