On May 6-7, 2023, cohousing communities across the country will open their doors to neighbors and friends from their surrounding communities. National Open House Weekend is our chance to share the story of cohousing – who we are, how we live, and why we love this way of life.
Below is a list of events happening across the country. There are both virtual and in-person events, as well as several gatherings of national or regional groups. Events are organized alphabetically by state and separated into virtual/in-person categories. Click on each event name for more information. This list changes daily so check back often to plan your weekend.

The members of this multi-generational community are learning together as they explore the art of living in a sustainable way. Ten of fifteen homes have been completed. Five homes to be built; make one yours! Hundredfold Farm still has a few ready-to-build home sites available for new community members. All sites have unobstructed southern exposures to maximize solar applications. Water, sewer, electric, natural gas, and telephone are available at each site. We can offer suggested home plans for each site, or we’d happily work with you to develop a custom home plan that meets your specific needs. Pricing for building sites range from $65,000 to $75,000. We are open to discussing creative and/or internal financing for building site purchases. Your new energy efficient home in Pennsylvania’s first cohousing community is within your reach. Following a short presentation, we will have large and small-group discussions about the intersection of permaculture, EcoVillages, and cohousing, and what we vision for ourselves and our communities. The book is written for a lay audience (with policy makers firmly in mind) and offers a useful and intelligible overview of our housing system and why it is in ‘crisis’, while acting as an important reminder of how housing contributes to social value, defined as community, health, self development and identity. Flora argues for a holistic digital map-based planning system that allows for the sensitive balancing of the triple bottom line of sustainability: social, environmental and economic value. She sets out a vision of what our housing system could look like if we really put the wellbeing of people and planet first, as well as a route map on how to get there. Written primarily from the point of view of an architect, the account weaves across industry, practice and academia, cross cutting disciplines to provide an integrated view of the field. The book focusses on the UK housing scene but draws on and provides lessons for housing cultures across the globe. Illustrated throughout with case studies, this is the go-to book for anyone who wants to look at housing in a holistic way. Author: Flora Samuel is a British architect, author and academic. IN 2009 she became the Head of the School of Architecture at Sheffield University, the first woman to hold this post.
