Why not use my upcoming Senior Cohousing book tour...
Dear Cohousers and Prospective Cohousers,
New Society Publishers is releasing the second edition of Senior Cohousing: A Community Approach to Independent Living in May. If you are a member of new or existing cohousing community that would like to plan a book signing, please let me know. Signings in May also allow us to promote the National Cohousing Conference in Seattle in June. Of course the most important job would be to make your efforts to create a new cohousing community successful. I’m fine planning a regular general cohousing presentation, but one way to offset the costs is to plan a book signing at your local bookstore. The publisher will pay $150 to the bookstore for hosting it, the bookstore will also have its own database to advertise your book signing, and they will help with the organizing it in general.
We know of no better way to interest bookstores or libraries about cohousing than by helping see the broader public’s interest in the topic. Therefore, we would send you a dozen press clippings. Do us a favor — please let us know which of the news articles resonated best with the bookstores, libraries, and the public. That is, when you handed the articles to them one at a time or when they shuffled through them, which one(s), if any, caught their eye, caused a pause or captured their interest. When organizing a new project in Tucson, AZ for example, and I walked into a bookstore to ask if they’d mind carrying the book, I noticed that there would be one or two articles that they would ask for a copy of for the store owner or the manager, or the wife at home because, “Hey, I think that Judy would be interested in this” came up more than once. “You can buy her a discounted book” I’d say, “Because, hey, you work in a book store.” Anyway, I’d come back with a copy of the couple of articles that they were interested in. And it was the same couple of articles over and over again.
So, good luck at getting the cohousing book in the bookstore, because cohousing is not a sound bite, and because it will help lead to a new, successful cohousing community in your area.

Sounds great!
We'd be happy to plan a book signing with you! Are you planning to be in the northeast any time soon?
Chuck's scheduling
From talking with him, I know that Chuck is still early in the scheduling process. He is happy to connect with different groups in a particular region. For example, if Mosaic wanted to help one happen in the Boston area, you could set a date with him and he could then put out the word to other groups - via Coho/L - or maybe - Cohousing Now!
Anyone interested in this can contact him through his offices in Nevada City:

Please consider a gift in support of Coho/US to help us all as we build a better society, one neighborhood at a time.
Is this only going to be in
Is this only going to be in the Northeast or will you be coming to the Pacific Northwest sometime soon?
Chuck will be at the 2009 National Cohousing Conference
in Seattle, WA at the University of Washington. In fact, he's giving a two-day Senior Cohousing Workshop on Wed, Jun 24 & Thu, Jun 25.
Hope to see you in Seattle!
That's great
That's great news. I hope you will be coming to Pacific Northwest too.
I'll be in Seattle those
I'll be in Seattle on those dates, so I'll be sure to attend! Thanks for the heads up.
Between Central Vermont & Clemons, NY 12819? or close.
I'd love to see one near me to get more members. As I am looking into forming a co-housing group in Williamstown, VT 05679, and/or Clemons, NY 12819. I'm considering a possible option of people starting out camping, fishing, etc. together as we check out the cohousing concept.
When I first heard about co-housing sharing a common house with kitchen, family room, laundry, etc. I immediately though of how a campground often has a central building where people come together for the store/snack bar/laundry.
In the event we don't make it to a completed cohousing development, we should still be able to meet some great people while enjoying what Mother Nature has blessed us with.
