Port Gardner Cohousing

Everett, Washington is about 20 miles north of Seattle. There are several cohousing projects in Seattle, but this will be the first in Everett. The popuation in the area is expanding, and the city supports and encourages dense housing development. Everett is located on Puget Sound, with a deep harbor, plenty of fishing and the largest marina on the west coast. Everett is also only about 1 1/2 hours from the mountains with skiing in the winter in fantastic hiking in the summer. There are plenty of beautiful camping spots close by, and it's easy to get out into nature in the Cascade mountains with rivers and waterfalls. The unemployment rate is low (less than 5%), and the economy is strong, with Boeing and Microsoft. Winters are mild (except that with global warming, there is no predictability, right?), and summers are mild as well. Yes we have rain - lots of it, and that's what keeps our environment green. As long as there is a snowpack in the mountains, there is no problem with drought.
Our cohousing project is in the development stage. We will have 15-20 units in a co-op model. It will be urban, with good walkability to services and close to a bus line. We have a focus on sustainability and ecologically responsible building. The units will be 2 bedroom, 2 bath, and about 1,000 square feet. There will be a common room, and guest rooms.
We are looking for individuals, couples or small families who are interested in the shared values of intentional community and being environmentally responsible. We will work together, learn together, grow together and eat together.
We have monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the classroom at the Sno-Isle Food Co-op 2804 Grand Avenue, Everett. These will turn into work sessions as we gather interested people.
