Skagit Cohousing is excited to be building a new neighborhood in Anacortes, Washington. Our beautiful building site looks over nearly two acres of meadowland toward Mt. Baker, shining in the distance. Our 30 homes will range in size from one to three bedrooms, and at the center will be our common house, which will feature traditional amenities.
We are especially pleased with our choice of Anacortes, where nature and beauty abound halfway between Seattle and the city of Vancouver, Canada. Known as the gateway to the San Juan Islands, Anacortes offers not only easy access to this renowned archipelago, but to Vancouver Island in British Columbia, beyond.
Within walking distance of our future neighborhood rests the Anacortes Community Forest Lands, with over 50 miles of hiking trails through woodland, wetland, meadow and lake shore. There are trails for the cyclists among us, and for water-lovers, there is ample kayaking, rowing, and boating. It is truly a unique and breathtaking place to live!
We have begun submitting building plans to the city, and aim to begin construction in the fall of 2020. Our professional partners include Kathryn McCamant of Cohousing Solutions as our development consultant, Grace Kim of Schemata Workshop as our architect, Tad Fairbank as our developer and Fairbank Construction as our general contractor.
Our members, with our varied backgrounds and life experiences, have come together with this vision: We are a welcoming community, that cares about each other as well as living lighter on the planet. Our mission is to create an intentional and sustainable community by building a sense of belonging while fostering an atmosphere of trust and respect. We benefit from the sharing of time, tools, and responsibilities while valuing individual and family privacy.
