Nubanusit Neighborhood & Farm (NNF) is the first eco-friendly cohousing community in New Hampshire. Within walking distance to downtown Peterborough, 29 family friendly households enjoy 113 acres of shared land that includes an organic farm, extensive woodlands, and animal pastures. Surrounded by nature and along nearly a mile of Nubanusit Brook riverfront, homes are clustered along pedestrian pathways and green spaces. Our homes are sunny, attractive, and highly efficient.
The community features an exceptional common house with charming guest rooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area, an indoor play space, comfortable gathering areas, and a large activity room that is home to a grand piano. The property includes the farm, a pond, picnic areas, a fire pit, a playground, an amphitheater, a workshop, commercial office space, and privately owned gardens, fruit trees, and horses. Each yard is as unique as its homeowner. Woodlands with multiple trails are enjoyed and maintained for walking and mountain biking.
NNF renters and owners work together on teams, aligned with their skills and interests, that are dedicated to the successful functioning of the neighborhood. Bi-annual work days are required and fun, while decisions are made by consensus at monthly meetings. Social activities are varied and include weekly common meals. Some residents practice regenerative farming activities such as raising chickens for eggs, cattle for meat, and vegetable growing. Other special interest clubs include permaculture gardening, beer brewing, environmental concerns, book discussions, and horseback riding.
The wider Monadnock region is known for its vibrant arts and music, outdoor recreation opportunities, and proximity to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Berkshires in Massachusetts, and Boston.
