Welcome to our eclectic, diverse community made up of folks of all ages from all over the country. What we have in common is a desire to be part of Durham’s vibrant urban scene and to lead a simpler lifestyle based on mutual support, shared resources, and a sustainable community with a small carbon footprint.
You are going to like it here … Durham (pop 267,000) is dense, neighborly, and it's easy to get around-- more like a town but with all the amenities of the larger metropolitan Triangle, including Chapel Hill and Raleigh; and Durham’s foodie culture got it named Southern Living’s Tastiest Town in the South southernliving.com/travel/tastiest-town-durham-north-carolina. Our condo community will be in walking distance of groceries, cafes, coffee shops (Cocoa Cinnamon is on our block!), local ice cream, an independent bookstore, and Duke University; and we’re in quick, easy driving distance of museums, galleries, concert and theater venues, I-85, NC 147, and I-40. RDU international airport is half an hour away.
Our Old West Durham neighborhood oldwestdurham.org/history/ is situated in a spacious green environment of towering oak trees, neighborhood parks, walking/biking trails and close-by Duke Gardens. In a few minutes’ drive, you are in Duke Forest, two state Parks along the Eno River, or the 22-mile American Tobacco Trail. The Blue Ridge mountains and NC’s beautiful barrier-island beaches are both three-hour drives. No wonder Durham is among the 10 most desirable places to live in the country!
Our soon-to-be home is a five-story condo building designed by Architect Ellen Weinstein www.wfarchitecture.com, and our group’s Project Manager and Owner’s Rep is Christine Westfall. This veteran team developed our sister cohousing condo building, Durham Central Park Cohousing Community www.durhamcoho.com, recently featured in Durham’s Triangle Institute of Architects Tour.
Our building will be located at 610 Trent Drive and will include 23 condos and both indoor and outdoor commons areas including:
• A kitchen, dining/lounge and screened porch area
• Shared laundry room
• 2 activity areas for playing music, yoga, meditation, exercise, small events
• Outdoor spaces – vegetable, herb, flower/pollinator gardens & trees, screened porch and terrace
The following available units comes with a parking space and a balcony: Unit 403 1 bedroom, 1 bath, 690sf; Units 306 & 404, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1295 sf All Units have 8.5 to 9 foot ceilings, large windows and a southern exposure creating a light-filled living area.
