I was lucky to join this amazing senior (55+) co-housing community by purchasing a small 2 bedroom condo. Just on the Park Street Bridge estuary it's a community of about 40 households of committed co-housers.
As a single gay man I have never lived alone, always with roommates or in community, so when I wanted to join this community I realized I'd want to continue the joy of living with others. I'm Japanese American and grew up on the East Coast, having lived in the Bay for 26 years I figured it was time to settle down!
The community is highly organized and there's always something to do here (although as it's also mostly introverts you can join in as you feel comfortable). The potential roommate would want to be living in co-housing, which requires monthly hours put into assisting with shared meals (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and general chores running the community.
The condo will be furnished (not your bedroom) and you'd have your choice of the larger bedroom with a huge closet ($1375) or the smaller bedroom ($875). Rent includes all utilities: wifi (all over the complex), water, PGE.
I'm looking for another adult (it's actually legally required by the condominium association that you have to be 55 and over – I'd take a younger roommate as I have friends across all ages, but I can't) who lives a similar quiet life. I'm in bed by 10pm and up at 7:30am. I work for myself as a life and business coach and spend almost daily time with friends or my co-housing mates. I'm a meditator whose involved in a number of communities.
The amenities here at the complex, Phoenix Rising, are insane: common meals cooked by members on Monday's and Wednesday's and a potluck on Fridays. Monthly game night, weekly yoga on Thursday nights, impromptu 'happy hours.' Often a member will offer up a movie night on Friday's.
There is a meditation room, an extra public living room, a guest suite with it's own kitchen, a communal kitchen (besides our own kitchen), 2 larger living rooms, a small library, a small gym, a massive hot tub (that 5 of us get into every night at 8:30pm), free laundry, and it's situated on a beautiful estuary.
I have a little young cat and would consider other pets.
