Village Hearth, in progressive Durham, NC, is a 28-home 55+ cohousing community on 15 acres just 15 minutes from downtown and 35 minutes to RDU.

We're surrounded by trees, have wide open Carolina-blue skies that sport majestic sunsets and frequent International Space Station sightings. Many are fond of the outdoors and enjoy gardening, hikes, kayaking or just communing with nature. Others may be found indoors working the jigsaw puzzle, playing music, cooking, attending book club or morning yoga. Our campus was masterfully designed with many opportunities to encounter our neighbors, yet introverts thrive while choosing when and with whom to engage.
Cohousing showcases a cooperative culture in which we make decisions about the community together, and it's expected that we all participate in the workings of the community. There's plenty of work to go around, so you're bound to find your niche quickly.

This two bedroom / one bath 990sf home features garden entrances front and back. In front, the owner has regularly seeded a colorful annual garden. In back, he created an elegant Japanese garden, complete with arching footbridge and stepping stone pathways. The roomy covered front porch is an especially nice place for morning coffee, while the back garden's 8' x 8' Trex deck is the perfect place for evening cocktails. The owner has fine-tuned this home with a recently installed 24" GE ceramic glass-top range, a slender Blomberg Euro-style refrigerator, and brand new ceramic tiling in the bathroom.
