Touchstone Cohousing is one of three contiguous, multigenerational cohousing communities just outside of vibrant, multicultural Ann Arbor, Michigan. This ideal location gives you easy access to the perfect mix of urban culture, suburban amenities, and rural charm.

Touchstone is just an 8-minute drive or bus ride from the city center, with its dynamic high-tech, educational, and cultural opportunities. Home to the University of Michigan, renowned medical facilities, and highly rated public schools, Ann Arbor supports small businesses and many local visual and performing artists. It is a great “foodie” town with lively restaurants, brewpubs, and farmers' markets offering a variety of locally sourced food. Our easily accessed DTW International Airport is only 30 minutes away. Detroit’s museums, symphony, opera, and sports arenas are an easy 45 minutes on I-94. Chicago is easily accessed by Amtrak, car, or air.

The community is next to the trails of the majestic University of Michigan’s Saginaw Forest and only minutes away from nature preserves and rolling farm fields. The scenic Huron River and the adjacent Border-to-Border non-motorized pathway are nearby, along with hundreds of glacially carved lakes, protected in state recreation areas. Within a few hours’ drive, you can enjoy the dunes, wetlands, and open waters of four of the Great Lakes.

Founded in 2005, Touchstone features active, empowered committees and a highly developed consensus decision-making process. The village atmosphere provides ample opportunities for friendships, social events, and cross-community engagement. Shared community areas include a 3,200-square-foot LEED-certified Common House, which includes a guest suite, children’s playroom, media room, sitting room, extra laundry facilities, and computer/internet hub, as well as a large commercial kitchen and dining room. Optional common meals are available at cost 2-3 times per week. Outside the Common House are playground equipment, fire pit, and community vegetable garden, along with mature flower gardens and trees. Also available is a shared woodworking shop.
