Guidelines for Visitors to Cohousing Communities
What to look for today
A personal visit to a variety of cohousing communities offers you an experience that no photo, website or book can offer. Join knowledgeable cohousing leaders and community residents for a full day visiting the four (4) Madison Cohousing communities. We will travel by bus and leave from conference headquarters.
Throughout the day, your tour leader will share information about Cohousing, answer questions and prepare you for your visit to the communities. You will get to meet other enthusiastic conference attendees and residents at each community. Volunteer residents will show us around their community, share about its unique social and architectural characteristics and as best they can answer your questions. We will walk around each community for about 75-90 minutes. We will stay longer at one of for a delicious lunch where we will be joined by residents. Fact sheets for each community will be available.
Neil Planchon has enjoyed leading dozens of these tours for 20+ years. He is a co-founder of Swan’s Market Cohousing in Oakland (California), has visited about 80 communities and has been a cohousing ambassador for 20+ years. He is a former Coho/US board and staff member, currently on their events and conference planning teams, and for the last 2 and a half years a co-director at the Foundation for Intentional Community (FIC).
