Description:

We are an urban cohousing community in the Cully neighborhood of northeast Portland, Oregon, cultivating supportive relationships with each other, our community, and the Earth. Our 37 homes are condominiums, (studios to three bedrooms) renovated in 2008 from a 1970s apartment complex for energy efficiency and healthy air quality.

The village is on 3.73 acres that include play areas, vineyards, extensive vegetable gardens, and mature fruit and nut trees. Because of the lush vegetation and large trees, visitors always comment that they can’t tell they are in the middle of the city. Our common spaces include a 1912 five-bedroom farmhouse, common hall, storage building, crafts room, and laundry room, as well as out buildings that support our farming activities.

Members of our multi-generational community share a concern for the environment and a desire to live lightly upon the earth, while strengthening social ties. We ask every member 18 and older to contribute 9 hours of work each month and hold weekly work parties to maintain our beautiful grounds, buildings, and gardens. We have used sociocracy for our governance structure since 2013.

People often contact us to inquire about internships, volunteer opportunities, or overnight stays. At this time, we do not have a volunteer program. Our farmhouse guest rooms are available for personal guests of current residents or members of existing cohousing communities.

If you are interested in exploring Columbia Ecovillage as a potential new home, please join our email list, which alerts subscribers about available homes for rent or sale. We do not maintain a waiting list. We have regular tours on the first Saturday of the month. Please rsvp through our website so we can arrange for a guide.
