Description:

We wish to build intentional community amid the greater community in Jefferson County on 39 acres, 17 miles south of Pt. Townsend, 30 miles and a ferry northwest of Seattle on the Olympic Peninsula. The land has a variety of ecosystems: about half forest, some of which are wetlands; a quarter meadow on glacial moraine; and a quarter pasture on wetter bottomland. There are two creeks and two ponds. We expect land owned in common with some form of private ownership of home and home site. We prefer environmentally sensitive, ecologically sustainable building materials and design. Current growth limitations may require multifamily housing with shared kitchen. Our values include sustainable organic agriculture, conscious eating of a natural-foods diet, and a recognition of how dietary choices involve/affect planetary economics and the environment. We prefer open communication with regular community meetings and other shared rituals, shared activities, and shared reality. The form and timing have changed. The owners have been living in California, building suburban community, accumulating capital, seeking partners, and now that they have retired are ready to return….at least part-time. There are caretakers on the land. We need partners with capital to own and build. We have considered building a retreat/resort center as an alternative community if a residential community does not manifest, or an active senior community. Fall 2008: With new pressure from the county, we need to install septic and start building houses, at least one house and one ADU so that there is a permitted place for our caretaker to liveand for us to get ready to be there. We want to design a strawbale house. Spring 2010: We have just put up a barn to store equipment and further visioning for the future. Winter 2015: We are in the process of building a house on the land. We are also looking at a property just down the road with a wonderful lodge building, a huge barn, and other buildings that could be added to our project for a retreat center….with the right partners.
