Description:

I dream of a place where people live together in community – caring for each other and for the land. I have been calling the community Gratitude Village because of the power an attitude of gratitude invokes but obviously the name can change! Here are some of the points that are important to me as I look to form the Founder’s Group of initial members:

1. Community & Connection – Being part of a community is healthier for us – mentally, physically, emotionally and economically.

2. Sustainability – Ideally the homes and buildings will be Passive House or Leed Gold/Platinum certified, we’ll have water-friendly green spaces and gardens and I’d love for the community to be Net Zero if possible.

3. Affordability – In my ideal vision, 1/3 of the homes in the community would be subsidized either internally or through partnerships so that young people, first time home buyers and folk on fixed incomes can afford a home. I envision three or four tiers of housing – smaller apartments connected to the common house for first time home buyers or single person households, middle tier duplexes or flats (w/ 2 or 3 bedrooms) and market rate single family homes or duplexes. This mix gives the community mobility within itself. Someone can start with an apartment and then buy up when their resources allow, or someone like myself might start with a larger home and then downsize to an apartment in the future.

4. Diversity – I see a community with a range of incomes, ages, ethnicities, family structures and belief systems

5. Nature – And as much green space as possible

Amazing community spaces start with a fabulous common house where meals and other activities are shared several times a week. Other community facilities will depend on the members desires and our budget but may also include a laundry room, guest rooms, gym, pool, hot tub, parking garages, gardens, greenhouse, outdoor playgrounds, dog run, maker space, sacred space, wine cellar, library, EV charging stations, and more!

Mission Statement (current version) This community appreciates & respects nature, embraces connection and sustainability, and values diversity, including individuals of all ages, professions, family structures, and ethnic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds.
