Description:

NTBD Project is an urban multigenerational cohousing community actively forming in Madison, Wisconsin. Our vision is to create a supportive community of about 20 households, each with their own private residence within the same building. We plan to be a home to people of all ages and backgrounds, united by the shared goal of working together to create something richer and more sustainable than what traditional housing can offer.

Madison, Wisconsin is a progressive, mid-sized city known for its natural beauty, vibrant culture, and strong sense of community. Set between two lakes, it offers year-round outdoor activities, a lively arts scene, and a bike- and transit-friendly layout. Home to the University of Wisconsin and a walkable downtown with markets, festivals, and the State Capitol, Madison appeals to those seeking a connected and active lifestyle.

Our cohousing community is designed to naturally foster meaningful social connections through both planned gatherings and spontaneous interactions. At the heart of our shared life are inviting common spaces—a kitchen and dining room where we come together for regular shared meals, a community room for relaxed conversations and celebrations, and outdoor areas, including gardens and gathering spots that invite informal chats and collaboration. Whether it’s a neighborly hello in the garden or a community meal at the end of the day, our spaces are built to bring people together.

NTBD Project members share four key aspirations: to design and operate a building that is resilient to climate change, to create a community that is resilient to the next pandemic, to be active participants in our government, and to accept responsibility for our impact on the biosphere. We acknowledge our impact on the environment and our consumption of limited resources, continuously working to reduce both.

If you’re looking for a cohousing community that’s driven, passionate, and engaged, we’d love to connect with you. NTBD Project is already in motion, and we’re excited to meet others who share our vision and are eager to create housing for a better future. NTBD stands for Name To Be Determined, since the task of choosing a permanent name is being deferred until the group is more fully formed.
