Description:
he Mac House began in the summer of 2010 with a purchase of a house and having the first people to move in. The Mac House was created to serve both the people of Mount Auburn and the members of the intentional community.
What is an intentional community you ask? It is a group of like-minded individuals living together with an intent. There are many different intents that a community can have, for example sustainable living, religious beliefs or any other group initiative. The intent of this community is a combination of a few purposes, however, the main purpose is to ultimately serve the neighborhood while also living a simple life.
The objective is to obtain residential members who are dedicated to living a life of service to others. The house also provides affordable housing for these tenants while living in a like-minded housing community. This home also has a first floor that is mostly accessible to those with limited mobility. We also have a no pet policy unless on very rare exceptions – including one cat who was inherited through a marriage 🙂
A great book on intentional communities is “The Irresistible Revolution” by Shane Claiborn. Although our intentional community is secular, this book has great principles that would be beneficial for anybody to read.
