Description:

Yulupa Cohousing is an intergenerational and inclusive community located in Santa Rosa, California – a popular destination for bicycling, hiking and outdoor activities in the heart of Sonoma County wine country. Our cohousing is a planned community of 29 private condominiums with shared common areas designed to bring people together and nourish a positive community life.
Our values include:
* Diversity and Acceptance
* Learning, Growth and Innovation
* Communication
* Environmental and Ecological Consciousness
* Spirit of Place
* Larger Community Involvement
* Privacy
Our original members participated in the planning and design of the community and developed community agreements, which are updated as the community evolves. As a self-governed community, we work on committees to manage everything from facility maintenance and sustainable landscaping to fostering positive community relationships and welcoming new members. We meet monthly to discuss issues of interest and make decisions through a modified consensus process that involves everyone.
Since our 2005 move in, we’ve gotten to know and care about one another through shared meals, garden work days, community outings, craft projects, variety shows, holiday gatherings, game and movie nights and much more. When kids come home from school or have time off, there’s always something to do. Our Common House has a piano, ping-pong table, foosball and a kids’ room full of toys. Our library holds games and books for all ages. Outdoors we have a grassy area and play structure, fruit trees, veggie gardens, a fleet of skitters, a basketball hoop, room for hide and seek, and sidewalks that invite chalk art. Children feel safe here. Everyone is on a first-name basis. All units face the courtyard and kids know they can knock on any door or give a shout and a friendly neighbor will show up.
The architectural design of our homes and common spaces is innovative and fun, both inside and out. Green community features include organic gardens, heirloom fruit trees, irrigation and fountain on well water, recycling and composting, bike sheds and solar panels for the common areas. Our homes feature radiant floor heating, energy efficient windows and passive cooling from concrete flooring on ground floors.
Yulupa Cohousing is close to many services including Whole Foods Market, an art movie theatre, Spring Lake Regional Park, Trione-Annadel State Park, a proposed 47-acre Southeast Greenway, a farmer’s market, six public schools, a bookstore, bus lines, bike paths and a convenient freeway entrance.
