Linda first dreamt of cohousing (even though she didn’t know that term) when she was 18, living communally in college in the wilds of Amherst, MA. She thought, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to grow old together with my friends, have a great house to gather in and have my own little place?” Who knew that decades later, she would pursue a 2nd career in design, that led her to become a development consultant with her own consulting firm, Linda Herman Consulting. Over the past 15 years, the firm has completed projects for religious institutions, non-profit organizations and senior cohousing communities. Her first senior-cohousing project in Oakland, Phoenix Commons, completed in 2016 and she is working with an organization in Portland on an innovative model for elder residential care blended with cohousing principles. Linda’s education includes a B.S. from the Univ of Massachusetts/Amherst and B.A. in Interior Design from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. Knowing she wanted to develop senior cohousing, she completed the Bay Area Ross Program in Real Estate, in association with the Lusk Center for Real Estate at USC. Linda is a certified Senior Co-Housing Facilitator, and LEED-Accredited Professional. In her spare time, she dances, hikes and gardens in lovely west Marin County, CA.
