Reduce

Living and sharing life together makes it easy to reduce consumption in lots of small ways, and some larger ones, that add up. Communities tend to have one lawn mower instead of 20. Car sharing is more common, and maintenance of seldom-used vehicles is rare. Neighbors borrow things they would otherwise purchase. Bulk purchasing reduces waste, as does bulk eating in the form of common meals.
