This event looks at the challenges of communities past their first decade, from aging buildings to aging members, working with what we have, integrating newcomers, and building on years of well-earned wisdom. Younger communities are encouraged to join us for a look ahead, it’s always great to know what’s coming.

Communities across the country are shedding pandemic restrictions and celebrating being together again. As a community of communities we gathered on zoom to share photos and stories. Sunnyside Cohousing harvested strawberries from their garden and celebrated with shortcake. Rocky Hill had the special treat of a wedding. Cornerstone children made a cardboard village. PDX had a dance party with a covid pinata. Gainesville Cohousing shared art and talent in their “funshops”. And more and more.

What a joy it is to see communities coming back together, restarting common meals programs, and opening common houses. We also heard some of the struggles as communities fail to agree on whether to continue business meetings on Zoom or begin to have them in person, how and whether to address non-vaccinated folks who may be in community, and when to open up to those outside the community for various uses.

As ever, cohousing is blissful, relational and challenging. Welcome back, it’s great to see you again!
