CohoUS is a primarily volunteer-run organization, comprised of a working board supported by a small, professional staff which administers day-to-day business.

 


Mission: CohoUS assists forming and existing communities and educates the public about the benefits of cohousing, from resource conservation to healthy families.

 

Position Summary

The Fundraising Development Professional will provide leadership and management of CohoUS’s growing fundraising development program.  The Professional reports directly to the Executive Director. We are seeking someone skilled at working with volunteers who has the ability to move between the big picture and day-to-day details. The Professional is responsible for creating the annual outreach and fundraising plan. Using the development plan as a guide, and understanding this is not a full time position, they will oversee the planning and implementation of campaigns to:

  • Review and organize our current fundraising strategy and messaging that will inspire support for cohousing
  • Bolster our fledgling major gifts from individuals program
  • Help start our legacy program
  • Assist in helping raise operating support from individuals, through current various individual giving programs, develop these programs as they grow
  • Maintain and increase CohoUS’ public visibility as one solution to current housing issues,  as time permits

The Fundraising Development Professional will be a key member of CohoUS’ team,  providing critically important guidance to the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors. 

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an experienced, creative and resourceful professional who is well-organized, highly motivated, people-oriented and excited about working in an expanding housing focused nonprofit.  Expertise in individual donor development and legacy programs is preferred.  Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 
  • Five years’ combined experience in fundraising development or related field
  • Successful track record in fundraising for a nonprofit organization, including individual donor development, major donor and legacy campaigns
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Preference for Donor Perfect CRM experience
  • Excellent planning, organizational, care-and-feeding of volunteers skills
  • Self starter, creative problem solver, ability to work alone but as a team player in a friendly cooperative and fun environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to social change and social justice
  • A commitment to increasing cohousing communities and defining them as a more equitable and progressive housing solution

 

Compensation and benefits

Position is part-time (approximately half time) as independent contractor. 

Pay negotiable (range $30-$50 hour).

Opportunities to increase hours and grow the position exist. 

Work from home.
