Fair Oaks EcoHousing Updates

We at Fair Oaks EcoHousing are a family-friendly, intergenerational group of households intending to build 30 homes on 3.5 acres. Our community’s start of construction is planned for summer of 2015. We’re actively looking for others who share our vision to join us.

We’re excited about our prime site location, minutes from the American River Parkway, Fair Oaks Village, Bannister Park, Sacramento Waldorf School and Rudolf Steiner College. Fair Oaks is 18 miles east of Sacramento.

We’re an active group, with members planning to commute to work by bike via the Parkway. Our community’s location on the eastern side of the valley provides easy access to the Sierra Foothills, with ample opportunities for hiking, skiing, rafting and kayaking in our free time.

Fair Oaks EcoHousing’s vision of sustainability will be integral in our cohousing community’s construction goals. We’re pleased to be working with Chuck Durrett of McCamant & Durrett Architects and Katie McCamant of CoHousing Solutions, both leaders in environmental sustainability.

The weekend of February 7th was a busy and encouraging one for us! On Saturday morning our group completed a Prioritization Workshop with our architect, Chuck Durrett. We’re pleased to say enhanced energy efficiency and soundproofing were our highest priorities, along with 9 foot high ceilings on the ground level. Depending on construction cost at bidding time, we will strive to get our next priorities of Forest Stewardship Council-Certified (sustainably forested) lumber, LED lighting, and a 1.5 kW solar PV array for each home. That evening, there was a standing-room only crowd for Chuck’s Cohousing Presentation at the library. Cohousing enthusiasm is high in Fair Oaks!

If you’re interested in learning more about our community, we’d love to talk with you. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to answer any of your questions:
